Skin Nutrition
As I've studied skin over the past year, I've come to realize that we truly are wonderfully made. Our bodies are designed to preserve health. Unfortunately, I've also come to understand that our skin is a great indicator of other things going on in our body. As much as I wish that all skin problems could be addressed with a cream or ointment, many issues are best addressed internally. One of the most important nutrients for skin health (and overall health of cells) is Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). They create strong cell membranes, help with cell to cell signaling, and deficiencies are even linked to many illnesses. The body requires only 2 EFAs, Omega 3s and Omega 6s. Most of us get plenty of Omega 6s (meat/olive oil), but most of us are missing our Omegas 3s (flax seed, leafy greens, fish, chia). An increase in these EFAs may help with a myriad of skin issues. When our body has what it needs, it functions the way it was designed.
