Are you ready for a chemical peel?
Here are some things to consider before you schedule that peel.
TIME: What are you doing for the 2 weeks after your peel? Going to the river, vacationing, hiking, going to big event? Then find another time. For any chemical peel that requires downtime, you’ll need to avoid heat, sun, and strenuous exercise for up to 2 weeks. You’ll also want to avoid foundation/make up on your skin until it has healed.
PREP: Skin needs to be hydrated and healthy before we challenge it with a peel. If you have darker skin, you’ll also need to be on pigment controlling skincare for up to 4 weeks prior to ensure that your body doesn’t create more pigment as it heals. Your esthetician will assess your skin and recommend how best to prep.
HEALTH: If you are on antibiotics, recovering from surgery or have some other immune impairment, you’ll want to give your body time to heal before you give it another challenge. Also, if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you’ll want to wait until your sweet baby isn’t taxing your body daily…at least internally. Am I right?
COMMITMENT: Are you committed to protecting your skin and wearing SPF when in the sun? If you’re not, a peel isn’t right for you. God designed our skin to protect our insides from damage. Those spots that you don’t like are protective so if you work on eliminating them and then go in the sun unprotected, they’ll come right back, and it will all have been in vain.
