Let’s Talk Eyebrows
Eyebrows. We might not think about them, but we need them. They were designed to protect our eyes from dirt and sweat, but they can do so much to provide structure and a frame for the entire face. So how can we make them look their best? There are a lot of options out there, but what do they all mean, and which is right for you? Let’s take a look together.
Most of us are familiar with tweezing our brows at home, but have you considered:
Waxing-applying warm wax onto hairs and then quickly removing the wax along with the hairs. This method is very common, but be careful not to exfoliate or use retinal within 3-5 days before in order to avoid lifting damage. Waxing is usually done ever 4-6 weeks.
Threading-rolling 2 threads over the brow in order to pluck unwanted hairs. It’s like tweezing, but much faster. Great for sensitive skin because there is no contact with any products. It is also repeated with new hair growth every 4-6 weeks.
Lamination-process of perming brow hair into a relaxed position, which is usually with hairs combed upward to create a look of thicker brows. It can last up to 8 weeks.
Sugaring-Using a paste of sugar (somewhat like honey) to grab and remove hair from the root. Great for sensitive skin as it unlikely to cause skin irritation. Repeat every 4-6 weeks.
Tinting-Dyeing the brow hair in order to help the brows look thicker and more prominent. Tinting lasts about a month or 2.
Henna-Staining the skin underneath and the brow hair in order to achieve fuller looking brows. The skin will stay tinted about 10 days and the hair about 6 weeks.
Microblading-tattooing hair-like strokes and pigment into the brow area to create a desired brow shape. It is semi-permanent, but will fade and need touch up every 1-2 yrs. Not great for those with oily skin.
Ombre- (also known as powdering) semi-permanent technique (similar to microblading) where pigment is placed into the skin using thin dots in order to create a shaded brow pencil look. It lasts at least a year and up to 5 years.
Whew! That’s a lot to consider, but now you know. Whatever you do, give them a little extra TLC. They help you communicate effectively with others, give you a more youthful look, and lift your entire face.
