Skin health is cell health so have a drink!
Of water that is. Dehydration disrupts the free water in the skin, compromises your skin barrier, and leads to dull skin. Every cell in our body needs water and skin cells are no different. Did you know that water activates the enzymes that trigger the release of dead skin cells? So, one of the simplest ways to reveal glowing skin is to hydrate from the inside. However, you can also cause dehydrated skin from over exfoliating, using harsh cleansers or overusing active ingredients. Your skin barrier (made up of water and oils) was designed to be a water proof barrier (to keep water from evaporating and to keep you from swelling like a balloon while taking a long soak in the tub.) If this barrier is compromised (due to lack of water or lack of oils) you might experience tight, flaky, itchy, sensitive skin, or dull skin.
So what can you do? Drink water, eat fruits and veggies (with high water content). How much? Until you don’t feel thirsty and your urine is light yellow or colorless. Use a humidifier to add water to the air. Don’t over exfoliate. Know that some meds (allergy, blook pressure, cholesterol, etc.) can cause internal dehydration and will require extra efforts. Give your skin a drink of water with Hyaluronic Acid toners and serums. And take measures to repair your skin barrier if it’s been compromised. So, now you know, Go get your glow.….I’m going to drink some water.
